Nothing unreasonable about this especially for $550. I’ve always loved lowered first generation Foresters. Probably has a blown head gasket if overheating and thermostat didn’t solve it. Might be easier just to dump a whole new (used) EJ25 into it.

$550? couldn’t you take the struts and wheels and scrap the rest with profit?

Probably. I don’t think I could sell the wife on that one though haha.

For sure. For someone with the time and inclination to do so.

I’ve repeatedly thought about pursuing the 04-08 Forester XT. The first gens are nice too, especially if you need plenty of interior space and drive in less than stellar conditions often.

I have a NA ‘08 Sport. I can imagine that adding a turbo would make it a hoot.

I love lowered first gen foresters.

Here’s what might be a nice example for cheap so you should jump on it.

That “overheating” issue screams “engine replacement”
If I can’t drive it from Maine back here to CT, no dice.
But then again, the overheating engine also means that this sucker is begging for an EJ20 swap...
I’m going to check my bank account.

NP if you can do the head gaskets.

Probably NP even paying someone else to do the HG.

I’ve talked myself out of it a couple times but always revisit the idea.

I like it, but I can’t shake the notion that this is driven by a middle-aged single woman running a dog rescue. The lowering is only so the ones with arthritic hips can still get in without help.
It’s the top search result on RanWhenBarked, right after the Honda Element.

My brother had a bad experience with a Fozzie I’d that gen. It looked great until you looked close underneath and realized the frame rails were gone. It had a recent inspection so he figured it was good. I guess they had a shady mechanic do the inspection because it never should have passed.
Now he says he’ll never own a Subaru because they handle like crap. But you can’t bade your opinion of a car that had essentially no rear frame.

Much like my irrational love for the Saab 9-2X, it’s getting harder and harder to find stock examples that aren’t all clapped out at this point.

My boss had a problem with a Fozzie of this gen as well. Body was nice but the mechanicals were fucked.

In your fantasy does this lady have a spouse?

Thats seems like a pretty reasonable want actually, unless of course, youre the David Tracy of Subaru Forresters and your yard is full of running and (mostly) non running Forresters, in which case, it does seem a bit....unreasonable....

My wife recognized my David Tracy like proclivities and put a hard cap on the number of vehicles I could have to two. I can only imagine the amount of rat rod projects I’d have piled up.

Ummmm....depends on the state.

Let’s go with Maine ... which is where this car is from.

If we ever become neighbours, Ill let you borrow my driveway/land to park the rat rod projects. I love those! We dont get many of them here in Holland, seen some Hot Rods, but not many Rat Rods.
My standard question/response in a hot rod/rat rod topic is: 33 Ford...I mean, its always a 33 Ford, right? ‘Have you ever read Hot Rod Magazine? 33 FORD!’

33 Ford? As long as it’s a truck I’m on board.
Mine’s a 30-31 Model A.

20 year old Subaru in New England?
Rust...Rust everywhere...
Dealers in VT advertise used Subarus as being driven up from NJ since people up there know what long winters do to the underside of cars.

I imagine it is a complete horror show underneath but you never know. A lowered fozzie probably sees less snow use haha.

No joke there, especially here in the Midwest.
